Healthy Antigua

I was at the farmer’s market this morning and discovered that Antigua has a triathlon association (Antigua & Barbuda Triathlon Association – ABTRI) and also has an upcoming half-marathon! The Trans-Antigua Half Marathon is this Sunday at 7am. I’ve scheduled an interview with the farmer’s market folks and also plan to take pics at the half-marathon. Stay tuned. Continue Reading

The Origins of the Candid FitNut

Really random: I’m standing in the kitchen with my mum and she asks “Dani, do you remember the program you used to watch on Disney with the exercise lady?…um…”. She thinking of Mousercise with Kellyn and Steve! She said I used to try and follow along and do the exercises (I was a toddler, hence the word “try”). And it dawned on me….I was a FitNut since (almost) birth…it’s been in my blood forEVER! Here is a video to take… Continue Reading

All I Do is Complain

I must admit…I’ve been pretty lame lately. I whine about not being able to work out, not having a gym, blah blah blah when I could have simply spent a little time thinking about what exercises I CAN do while in my funky boot and not having access to a gym. My YouTube pilates the other day was a half-assed attempt. If Earl grows, its my own lazy fault. Today I googled “exercises to do with a broken foot” and… Continue Reading

Today’s Workout…

…was…meh. As I mentioned last night, I’m still waiting on my kettlebell to arrive (along with other personal stuff) and I’m not a member of a gym yet. So I YouTubed pilates workouts and did two: one for the core and one for legs. They both only added up to about 15 minutes…very paltry, I know. BUT they did make me feel slightly less like a tub of lard. On an awful side note, Earl is growing again. Continue Reading

Veggie Kebabs

I’m back at home living with my mum and step-dad (herein referred to as the parents) (and don’t judge me…in the Caribbean, we stay at home for a long as we can!) and its nice having people to cook for. Tonight, John (step-dad) made the steaks and I did the veggie kebabs (all on the grill)….and they were super-delish. 1) Cut your veggies  into thick chunks. I used zucchini, yellow squash, red onion, pineapple, red and green bell peppers, and… Continue Reading

No More Crappy Pics

The pics I previously posted on this blog were…less than…professional, shall we say. They were actually down right sh!tty (a Blackberry photo can only get you so far). But all that has changed! I got myself a Nikon D3100 and I love it so much. I’m still learning but a friend of mine, Messay, who is a super-talented photographer (check out his site here Messay) took me out and about in DC one day to give me a crash course… Continue Reading

It’s Been Way too Long

I’m back! It’s been a long, stressful four weeks and I’m glad that time is behind me. Between finding a new home for Dadli, selling my car, selling other stuff, shipping my things home, moving out of an apartment, then moving back to Antigua….I’ve just been so busy; too busy to tend to my beloved blog. But that is over with, I’ve bee back at home for a few days now and am ready to get back into blogging. I… Continue Reading

What is a Berry?

Going off of the “is it a fruit or veggie” post….what really is a berry? We usually think of berries are tiny, fleshy fruit like bluberries, strawberries, etc. But most times, we’re wrong! Technically (or botanically) speaking a berry is a fleshy fruit that comes from a single ovary (the female reproductive organ of a flower…science class anyone?); the entire ovary ripens into the edible bit. Here are some berries that we wouldn’t really think are berries: grapes, bananas (crazy… Continue Reading

Fruit or Veggie??

Last week was Amanda’s birthday and we took her out to a Cuban restaurant. During dinner, the subject came up of what is a fruit versus what is a vegetable. So I (being the genius that I am) said that if it has seeds, then its a fruit. Then the discussion continued “well, that about pumpkins and cucumbers?” Good point especially since we use those as veggies, but I still maintained my ‘if it has seeds…’ argument (but I really… Continue Reading

Scared I’m Going To Re-Wobble

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Why did this have to happen? Seriously though, why? I was doing so well with my workouts and building some muscle and getting all sexy and now I have to cut back because of this silly fractured bone. Who ever heard of a sesamoid bone anyway? Now that I can’t really get my cardio on for a while, I am absolutely terrified that I’m going to re-wobble; that all my hard work would have been for naught. This seriously… Continue Reading

Today’s Workout…

…was 100% kettlebells! I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how I can workout with this fractured foot bone: a couple days ago, I went swimming at my ghetto gym, but I was grossed out by a couple things and kept having the feeling that I was going to develop some kind of rash, so I’m not too sure if I’ll try that again. Then yesterday I did pilates….this was OK but some of the moves required some… Continue Reading
