Officially Adding Another Injury to the List
| October 26, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Injuries, Running |
A sesamoid fracture is what I have. I told you guys about my most recent injury yesterday and the exact injury was made official today after a visit to the urgent care facility and an x-ray. The doc says I should wear a CAM walker (the funky boot in the pics below) for about a week, but when I google, multiple websites say 6-8weeks; so I’m not really sure which is which….I’ll probably wear for longer juuuuuust in case. The… Continue Reading

Here We Go Again
| October 25, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Injuries, Running |
This must be a sign that I shouldn’t run anymore Like any other runner, there are days when I run longer distances and there are days where I run shorter distances but with increased speed. Last week Monday was a short but fast run. Armed with my trusty (or not??) toe shoes, I took to the sidewalks of my neighbourhood to run and quick and fast two miles. It felt great, I was proud of my time. Fast forward to… Continue Reading

Sweet Potato Protein Muffins
| October 19, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Homemade Goodness |
Last night I attempted the sweet potato protein muffins as seen in this recipe. Oooh boy… I need to bake the sweet potato to get it soft, soooooo thinking I was being a genius, I cut up the sweet potato into smallish cubes and baked at like 400 degrees. What my bright self didn’t realize was that baking the sweet potato whole would have achieved the desired effect while cutting it up then baking it would make them hard. I… Continue Reading
Today’s Workout…
| October 19, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Rants, Today's Workout |
…was my first time back in the gym in months. Since I’ve been doing P90x, I haven’t been to the gym….only the P90x, biking, and running. I decided to go back today for a few reasons, but the main one being that I’m packing up my ish and moving back to Antigua within the next few weeks so my makeshift workout area for doing pullups and other back exercises is gone. Walking into the gym again felt really good but… Continue Reading

Welcome Burger King’s NY Pizza Burger. [pic] What in the hell were these people thinking about when coming up with this concept? This pizza-burger hybrid consists of four Whopper patties, bacon, pepperoni, cheese, and marinara sauce. These six slices of a heart attack contain over 2500 calories, 144g of fat (59g of which are artery clogging saturated fat), and 3780mg of salt (double what we need). The NY Pizza Burger is only available in NYC for the moment….thankfully. Continue Reading

WTF?
| October 11, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Rants, Running |
Why the f*ck do guys feel the need to holla at you when I’m running? First of all, I’m running so I’m definitely not focused on your lame ass in your lame car. There are some of you that yell out your car window and keep it moving then there are those of you who slow down your car and ride along side me and try to talk to me. WTF is wrong with you??? Don’t you see I’m busy?… Continue Reading

Dark Chocolate Is Good For You!
| October 8, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Eating |
Studies show that eating 1.6 ounces of dark chocolate daily can be good for you! Dark chocolate contains a higher percentage of cocoa…cocoa is rich in antioxidants (believed to help the body’s cells resist damage caused by free radicals that are formed by normal bodily processes such as breathing and from environmental contaminants like cigarette smoke). Look for chocolate that is at least 70% dark chocolate and only a small amount is needed. Unfortunately, recent studies have shown that the… Continue Reading
Spicy, Stewed Tilapia with Black Rice and Veggies
| October 7, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Homemade Goodness |
It’s fish time again! I’m preparing tilapia (again) but this time with black (or forbidden rice) and steamed veggies. What really is black rice? It is rice that is black…or purple to be exact. Black rice, Chinese in origin, is “forbidden” because only the Emperor could eat it and no one else. Black rice is super-healthy too: its got a high iron and protein content, and one recent study found it to be very high in anthocyanin antioxidants (same antioxidant… Continue Reading

| October 6, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Injuries |
That, my friends, is Anna’s cleaned up wound from our duathlon this afternoon. As charming as this pic may be, the convo we had about it is funny: Dani: your cut makes you seem kinda cool Anna: yea, I don’t mind roughing myself up a bit sometimes Dani: blood is the new black! How Did Clinton Lose That Weight?
| October 6, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Weight Loss |
[Source] [Source] Former President Bill Clinton’s heart has been through a lot: a quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery in 2004, complications from that surgery, and having two stents placed into his coronary artery earlier this year. It should come as no surprise that Clinton adopted a healthier lifestyle in an effort to stay away from the operation table. A svelte-looking Clinton was recently interviewed by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer who wanted to know just how he lost the weight. Clinton attributes… Continue Reading
Things That Make You Go “hmmm”
| October 5, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Weird |
[Source] This is not your favourite strawberry flavoured ice cream or fro-yo. This, my friends, is mechanically separated chicken…this stuff that makes chicken nuggets. In a nutshell: once the main bits of chicken are scraped off the bones, the remainders are put through a sieve. The sh!t that comes out is teeming with bacteria, so they douse it with ammonia, infuse it with artificial chicken flavour, then re-colour it. Sounds delish! For those of you who love Chick-fil-A and McDonalds,… Continue Reading

What In the TRX is TRX???
| October 4, 2010 | Posted by Dani under Workouts |
TRX is TRX Suspension Training; I’ve been hearing a lot about it recently and it seems like the hottness right now. TRX training consists of hundreds of different exercises that promise to build strength and flexibility without injuring yourself. One of the nifty little features of the TRX system is that it fits into… Continue Reading
