Today's Workout…

…was biking and I finally went on a different trail today! I met up with Shima and we rode 7 miles from Bethesda, MD to Georgetown, DC and back (14 total miles) on the Bethesda Crescent Trail. It was really refreshing to ride in a different environment… I was like a kid in a candy shop looking at all the new things around me. Another cool thing around this trail is that they not only have random water stations, but… Continue Reading

Socacize!

Before I even begin this post: non-West Indians, please familiarize yourself with what soca is here. Soca is music that will lead you to do scandalous things in public during carnival. So I can only hope and pray that  Socacize will lead you to do scandalous things during the workout…from my YouTube research, I see wining down the the ground action (leg and abs workout?) as well as some bending over action (booty workout?). But according to the website, Socacize… Continue Reading

The Great Peanut Butter Watch of 2010: Update 3

The update is…is that I haven’t had peanut butter in over a week. I’m craving it now. I damn well remember that I forced my hand inside the jar to scrape out the last bits of that peanutty goodness….but I still searched my cupboards yesterday juuuuuuuuuuust in case there was a jar. need….peanut butter….now…. I guess I could go ahead and answer the question of why I just don’t take my ass to the supermarket to get some…the answer is… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was pilates…again. Since I did jack-shit yesterday, I decided to keep with the non-sweat-last-couple-of-days I’ve had and do pilates again. Pilates is an amazing ab workout, so I don’t feel too bad. I will, however, be sweating tomorrow as I’m going on a 14 mile bikeride tomorrow with Shima! Continue Reading

Cardio Before or After Weights? That is the Question

I feel like this is one of the age-old questions of working out: cardio or weight training first? Fitness trainers have varying opinions and preferences but from what I’ve read and personal experience, it depends on how you feel and what your goals are. When I do my cardio first (which is usually about 45 minutes), I have more than enough energy to do my weights after. But my goal isn’t massive strength gains, it is fat loss and having… Continue Reading

CFN Wants to Hear From You!

Check out the ?s About YOU! page of CFN….we want to hear from you! Cari’s interview questions were a huge hit, so CNF is inviting its readers to respond to The CFN Questions and submit a pic (headless or not) as well. Thanks! -Dani Continue Reading

Why the F*ck Won't Earl Go Away?? FML

I would take a pic of Earl but I’m waaaaay too embarrassed. I exercise all the friggin time and I don’t eat junk food (I may, however, pigout on an occasion) but I just don’t get it. I think my body just likes to be wobbly…seriously. I feel like if unless I cut out ALL carbs and fat (which we all know isn’t right or healthy), then I won’t lose my wobbles. Its really disgusting….eff you wobbles, eff off Earl. Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

….was pilates! I love, love, love pilates (a pic of my TV screen….what a bright idea :-/ ). There was a point in my life where I was not going to the gym and only doing pilates several times a week and, I promise you, my tummy was the flattest it had been in ages. I constantly ask myself why I don’t do pilates more often given the amazing results I’ve had in  the past. I think its because I… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

… was biking! After I rode my ass to the post office, I went along my regular route and rode for a little over an hour. I rode hard and fast for most of the way out to the lake then I did 1 minute high-intensity intervals on the way back home. I had a good stretch once I got back in. Continue Reading

10 Questions for: Cari

This post begins Candid FitNut’s interview series! Here is what this hottt mamacita (pic below) has to say about health, fitness, and her body (her responses are in bold text): 1. How do you maintain your sexiness? By having tons of sex Yah right, but I’m sure that would help…. I just try to work out consistantly, eat healthy, and watch portions (most of the time). I also love beauty products… makeup, hair products, nail polish, all that stuff! At… Continue Reading

Forced to Eat From a Vending Machine?

Heaven forbid that you must from a vending machine but, should this unfortunate circumstance arise, here are 10 of smartest choices you can make (see the article in Fitness Magazine for specific caloric information): Planters Sunflower Kernels Baked! Lays Original Sun Chips Original Snyder’s of Hanover Mini Pretzels Smartfood Reduced-Fat Popcorn Peanut M&M’s Fig Newtons Nature Valley Granola Bar, Oats & Honey Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts Quaker Chewy Low-Fat Granola Bar, Chocolate Chunk Continue Reading

When Stressed, Pig Out or Starve?

I feel like I see a ton of articles about people pigging out when they’re stressed . But when I’m stressed or sad, I want nothing to do with food…which is insane considering that I’m always hungry. What is it about people that lead them to divert from their normal eating patterns when under emotional/mental duress? I came across this great article on Psychology Today that explains why many people overeat or eat junk foods when stressed out. In a… Continue Reading

Why I Hate My Gym: Part 2

I think I can go on for days about why my current gym sucks, so I figured I’d just give snippets here and there. Today (and practically everytime I go) the free weights aren’t in their proper places. Why is ONE 70lb weight in the 15lb slot? Why is the 35lb in the 90lb slot? Why weren’t 15lb weights together? We all know that people suck and some may not put the weights back in their proper places but shouldn’t… Continue Reading

Open Letter to My Running Shoes

Hey Asics, How’s it going? It has been quite sometime since we’ve met up. I haven’t been ignoring you; not intentionally anyways. It is just that my body sucks my now, my ankle to be more specific. After two months, it still friggin hurts. But that is not your fault (or is it?). You sit there so patiently, so quietly. Looking all nice and fancy-schmancy with your SuperFeet insoles…one of you even has a special extra insert to help with… Continue Reading

Super-Awkward Body Functions at the Gym

Vag Crotch sweat and hard nipples…these phenomena are weird, gross (crotch sweat is anways), and awkward. When I’m done with my cardio, or even a really challenging leg workout, I get this embarrassing V-stain on my upper legs. I try to fool myself into thinking its OK by saying “that just means I worked out really hard”. Then the nipples….my friggin nipples poke out 10 miles, especially when I’m lifting weights. I try to look to see if other chicks… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was 100% kettlebells. Holy Sh!t, I’m feeling this workout. Fueled with a protein shake (or, rather, milk and protein powder mixed), I worked out for about an hour only using my 10lb kettlebell at home. I did two circuits of about 12 exercises. Because of all the swinging involved, you really work your lower back and get a bit of cardio in as well (because you’re not taking a lot of rest time). By the time I was down to… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was legs and abs. I really worked my abs today: I did 5 sets of 10 (3.5 straight legged and 1.5 bent knee) on the captain’s chair, 3 sets of side planks with a twist, crunches with legs in air with 9lb kettlebell, and seated twists with 9lb kettlebell. For legs, I did what is outlined in my routine page of this blog. Not much cardio though….my leg workouts sap all my energy. My ass feels all nice and activated. Continue Reading

Super Healthy Lunch: Baked Talapia with Eggplant Steaks and Butternut Squash

I made an amazing lunch yesterday; it was yummy, filling, and healthy! When I cook fish, I love to bake it with some sort of lime/lemon mixture…the flavours are amazing. Also, most people think eggplant is pure mush, but I bake my eggplant until its just barely cooked…that way it retains its shape and texture. And anyone that knows me, knows I love butternut squash…even steamed, its good. 1 – Rinse talapia with water and lime juice then season with… Continue Reading

Why I Hate My Gym: Reason #1

Their friggin machines don’t work!! Not only do they take forever to fix their machines (please see previous post) but there are always a ton of machines broken. Today, two weighted machines were down and ELEVEN cardio machines were out of order. This gym has 65 cardio machines (yes, I counted) which means that ~17% of their machines are broken. WTF? And its not like they just broke down, I’m so over seeing the same “out of order” signs on… Continue Reading

Dear Headless Stairmill

Dear Headless Stairmill, Why the hell are you still headless??? Certainly I understand that things happen and you may need repairing once in a while, but 3+ weeks is a bit ridiculous to be out of commission. Your siblings next to you seem to work just fine, but it is slightly very irritating when I need to use your services are your other functioning counterparts are in use; not only in use, but being utilized by people who very clearly… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was back and shoulders. I started off with 20 minutes of interval cardio on the stairmill then I jumped into my back and shoulder workout. I upped my weights a bit, so I’m really feeling it (looove that feeling). Once I was finished with the weights, I finished up my cardio on the elliptical (so I did 50 minutes of cardio total for the day). I usually do my cardio before my weights, but I read somewhere that doing cardio… Continue Reading

DC Cupcake Wars: The Results Are In

My inner chub had the desire to taste cupcakes from the major cupcake bakeries around DC, MD, and VA and I completed this mission yesterday. I evaluated each cupcakery on taste and “cake” moisture. Here is the list (in order of best to not-the-best): Georgetown Cupcake and Hello Cupcake – the cupcakes from both of these places are AMAZING. They’re soooo moist and just utterly delicious. Obviously try the red velvet (this was kind of my control flavour that I… Continue Reading

The Great Peanut Butter Watch of 2010: Update 2

Tomorrow will make a week since I bought my current jar of peanut butter….and its not done! I am about halfway through. I ate a scoop today (I was hungry) and will prob make a smoothie with it tomorrow (cuz I’ll need something to keep me sane tomorrow). Some may ask “how about you just don’t buy peanut butter?”. But I’d really rather have it around me so that I can learn to resist the temptation. The struggle continues. Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was OK. I did my chest and arms, but I was only able to do 15 minutes of cardio (I always try to do at least 45 minutes). But I had ‘ish to do today, do I had to cut the workout short. I’m gaining a lot of upper body strength; I’m going to need to up my weights next week. The only thing is is that my lame-ass gym (I HATE it…I promise to post why one day) doesn’t… Continue Reading
