I'm Not That Different From a Cow

This is purely regarding my eating habits. When I was employed, I had fairly structured daily eating habits: 7am breakfast (eggs, cereal, or oatmeal), 10am snack (fruit or yogurt), 12pm proper lunch (protein, good carbs, veggies), 3:30pm snack (chick pea salad or some light protein), and supper (edamame, some kinda of broccoli thingie, scrambled egg whites, or some kind of super-light food). But now I eat little things all day; I don’t think I’ve had a proper meal in a… Continue Reading

The Reason Why I Haven't Run in Two Months

My friggin’ ankle…that’s why. First it was my knee (iliotibial band) then I spent 6-8 weeks in physical therapy, I got better and started to run again. I got up to 5 miles (which is a huge deal for me…my body does NOT like to run) then my ankle started to d!ck around (this was around April-ish). But, being the intelligent person that I am, I kept running anyways. So May rolls around and my ankle now starts to hurt… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was biking. Anna (above) and I rode for an hour and 25 minutes around the usual route. To fuel me for the ride, I ate a mini whole wheat pita bread with about 1 tablespoon on peanut butter. When I got home, I had a grapefruit and a cup of black tea (with milk and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar). Continue Reading

DC Caribbean Carnival 2010….The Bacchanal Workout Edition

One bottle of vodka and two bottles of rum later (not entirely consumed by me…not the vodka anyways) I’m back online. I did not workout this weekend in the traditional sense. ‘Twas DC Carnival. If you’re from the West Indies you will fully understand and accept that normal life stops during carnival. I, however, was not completely inactive during this time…quite the opposite; the following pics will demonstrate some of the elements of “The Bacchanal Workout”: Stair Climbing Back Extensions… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

….was only cardio. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the stairmill (intervals). I also ate three brownies yesterday and some homemade quiche…both of which I’m sure negated my cardio workout. Onto the next. Continue Reading

My Favourite Smoothie EVER: Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie

I drank it before I could take a pic. First of all, I’m addicted to Skippy’s Reduced Fat Super-Chunky Peanut Butter. I can go through a jar in less than two weeks; its quite shameful. I really want to try ‘all natural’ peanut butter but these supermarkets don’t carry natural AND chunky/crunchy AND reduced fat. Anyways, my bestest smoothie ever: 1 cup of skim milk or almond milk (almond milk gives it a richer flavour and less calories than milk… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was decent. After 45 minutes of cardio (the efficiency of which was severely hampered because my legs still hurt from my workout 2 days ago) I did my abs then I started my back routine. Oh, before I launch into that, can I talk about the dude with stinky breath on the elliptical next to me? It smelt like he forgot to brush his teeth this morning…that morning funk…so gross. Anyways, my routine went quite well: kettlebell power plank rows… Continue Reading

The Remorseful Feelings of 'I Did Not Workout Today'

I set my alarm for 6am…it went off at 6am…I opened my eyes at 6am…I went back to sleep at 6:10am. F******ck. I tried, I really did. I woke up tired as can be and I used the excuse of ‘I wanted to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed’ for my mid-day interview. I used the excuse that I REALLY need to prep for the interview. The interview is over and I’m not able to go to the gym for the rest… Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was legs, legs, legs. I’ve always tried to do my legs at the beginning of the week…just in case something happens and I have to skip a gym day, at least I’ve done my legs.  My legs are my friggin powerhouse, but laaawd they feel like jelly right now. I started with a compound exercise…the leg press. I did four reps of 10 open leg presses and 5 closed leg presses. Then I did pistol squats….I’m not too good at… Continue Reading

130 Feels So Good

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally….I’m back down to 130lbs!I gained 7lbs about a year ago and my weight was stuck at 137-138 forever. I still exercised but only enough to maintain that weight, not lose it. I lost a little when I started to run then I lost more when I really ramped up my work out…running, biking, in the gym at 5am (when I was employed). And it continues now that I’m not employed….I can’t control many things around me right now because… Continue Reading

Kettlebells

Assuming I don’t swing this heavy-ass ball into something or break my back, this funky looking thing will be apart of my new workout regimen. I’m soooooo over my usual workouts and I’ve been searching for something different to breathe life into my routine. So I did lots of research and found great articles and sample workouts. My new workout will consist of regular weights and kettlebells…check it out in the ‘My Current Routine’ section. BTW, experimenting with kettlebells today… Continue Reading

Grilled Salmon Salad

The pic is kinda small and I’m not exactly adept at food presentation but I’m hoping you’ll get the general idea. The salad has a ton of yummy stuff in it and the roasted veggies really made it pop: 0.25 oz (or half of a salmon filet you get at the supermarket) salmon. Rinse, squeeze lemon/lime, season with salt, pepper, and whatever else you want…but you don’t need a bunch of stuff. I used Pam to coat the pan and… Continue Reading

Homemade Super-Healthy 'Triple-Berry Smoothie'

I love, love, love smoothies. Here are the ingredients for a Triple-Berry Smoothie: plain, non-fat Greek yogurt (low-cal with tons of protein) a bit of water (to thin out the yogurt) strawberries, blueberries, raspberries (or whatever combo of berries you like; frozen is OK!) 1 scoop of protein powder optional: squirt or about 1 tablespoon of honey (not necessary because the fruit is already sweet) blend! Today's Workout…

was biking! I really love biking….I feel like I can go on forever (my hefty legs do serve a purpose on this earth). I’m not quite sure how many miles I rode today: my cyclometer (which Anna says I need to throw away) said I did 11.5 miles but when I look at the trail map, I did 14-15 miles. I’m leaning towards 14-15 because before I went on my usual route, I did two miles elsewhere and I did… Continue Reading

Lunch!

Soup is on the menu. It is low-fat and super-healthy: I made it with skinless chicken, acorn squash, red peppers, hot peppers, onion, garlic, celery, mushrooms, stewed tomatoes, and whole-wheat dumplings…so freakin’ good! Continue Reading

Today's Workout…

…was a friggin’ sweat fest. I’ve been doing cardio only this week and today I did an hour of interval training: 40 minutes on the ellipitcal and 20 minutes on the step-mill for a total of 530 calories, but knowing that these machines are way off, I’ll say I burned about 400 calories. Abs were next with side plank with twist, seated twist with a medicine ball, and a super-set with weighted-ups and reverse crunches. Let hope I don’t f*ck… Continue Reading

My Workout Shoes

I’m not to tell you about myself in the first post…there is a separate page up above for that. I will, however, tell you about my gym shoes!! The pic above (which is the same pic as the main blog pic) are my current sneakers in rotation. The ones on the left are my Asics….they’re for running (which I haven’t been doing much of cuz of my ankle…more on that ish later). The middle shoes, the Nikes, are the oldest… Continue Reading
